[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경남도는 광복회 경남지부와 함께 17일 경남보훈회관 대강당에서 ‘제84주년 순국선열의 날 기념식’을 개최했다.

‘순국선열의 날’은 대한민국의 국권 회복과 조국 독립을 위해 희생·헌신한 순국선열의 위훈을 기리기 위해 지난 1997년 제정된 법정기념일이다.

이날 기념식은 이도완 경남도 복지보건국장을 비롯해 정쌍학 경남도의회 의원, 박남용 경남도의회 의원, 김종술 경남동부보훈지청장과 독립유공자 유족 및 보훈 단체장 등 150여 명이 참석한 가운데, 순국선열의 날 약사보고, 기념사, 기념공연, 만세삼창 순으로 진행됐다.

이도완 경남도 복지보건국장은 “대한민국의 자주독립과 국권회복 등에 고귀한 희생이 있었음에도 여전히 독립유공자로 인정받지 못한 분들이 많이 있다”며 “한 분의 독립운동가라도 더 발굴하고 포상하기 위해 경남도는 최선의 노력을 다할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

정부는 이번 순국선열의 날을 계기로 총 67명을 신규 독립유공자로 예우한다고 밝혔는데, 이중 경남 지역 출신 독립운동가 5명이 새로이 독립운동 유공 공적이 확인되어 정부포상을 받으면서 도내 독립유공자는 총 1,442명이 됐다.

정부포상은 건국포장(밀양 민병구, 진주 이양호), 건국훈장 애족장(창원 김성규), 대통령표창(산청 신창식, 통영 강말이) 등이 수여됐다.

이중 후손이 생존하고 있는 故 민병구 선생의 건국포장은 국가보훈부 주관 중앙기념식에서 전수되며, 故 이양호 선생은 경남서부보훈지청에서 독립유공자 유족 을 직접 방문하여 전수할 예정이다.
